Just a Piece of Sky

Image
When I was in my 20’s, the world was so open to opportunity but I was so short of experience. I was young. In my way to 30’s, I have realized that relationships are hard to come by and there is no shortage of people to meet and friendship to be made. I also learned that there is no reason to waste our time with people who don’t help us on our life’s path. Now that I am in my 30’s, I have learned to set aside what other people think and instead learned to identify my natural strengths and what I am passionate about. Yes, I have learned to build a life around those. Have I taken risks? Definitely yes and it was painful but not a reason to give up. Life is a bitch, they say, and I refused to be toppled. Never be afraid in taking risks. While by age 30, most feel they should be contented with what they have, their career dialled in, it is never too late to reset if you realize it is not really what you want. I have seen individuals with regrets for staying into ...

All About Loyalty

Image
To what do we owe really our loyalty? To what extent should we be loyal? Are we loyal because we receive something or are we loyal because we desire to give? Growing up, I was taught with the value of loyalty. My parents taught me how being loyal makes an important part of who I am as a person. I was taught of being loyal as an important element of one's character. And when it comes to work, my father would always give me an example of a soldier who will not leave a wounded comrade behind and dodges withering fire to bring the man to safety. For that is what loyalty is all about.  I thought loyalty then was all that simple. For me, to be loyal with friends and have friends who are loyal to me in return was the purest accomplishment I can ever stride for. I have only a few friends who I would do everything because we have been through so many rough times. Loyalty is more than that. Now, I am at a different point in my life where I have a deeper understanding of what loyalt...

Determining Your Value in the Workplace

Image
When you judge yourself, as we all do, how do you measure up? What do you feel you have to offer to your organization - and is that offering given the value, validity, and respect it deserves? What is your worth or do you even consider your worth at all? Or are you just another delusional mammal? Why is it important to understand your personal currency? I’m going to be frank and say that not only is it important to recognize your innate worth, it’s critical that you do or else you might end up living in great delusion. I am telling you, that would be seriously ridiculous. In the past 10 years, I got the privilege to work with already 3 different employers,  both public and private sectors. I am glad that I was given the opportunity to work with the best minds of these 3 organizations. While the opportunities were great, I was also given the challenge to work with people who have parasitic attitudes, delusional mammals or even those who are good as deadwood. Inasmuch as I w...

Working With the Government

Image
I was having my coffee in a shop near my place and noticed a woman in her 20s whom I assumed then was memorizing as she was holding a reviewer. She was sitting beside my table. She saw me watching  her and she smiled. As a good gesture, I smiled back and said "Hi, what are you up to?". I have learned that she is preparing for the Civil Service Examinations. She said she wants to work with the government so she really needs to pass it. Before I left the coffee shop, I then bade goodbye and wished her the best for the coming examinations. While I was walking home, I can't help but reminisce when I took the same exam in 2005, I was 20 years old then. It then crossed my mind again as to why am I in the government service? I am not telling you that working with the government is a miserable existence because that would be untrue. Working with the government has very fair benefits and perks and sense of fulfillment which you can only understand if you are one of the more than...

Love and Science

Image
Does love in romantic sense exist? Or is it just the word our society has put it in Webster’s Dictionary when we feel we are strongly attracted or when we have this unexplainable feeling towards someone?  Is love merely a result of a chemical imbalance or physiological unevenness in the brain ,  or is it a result indeed of Cupid’s intervention which requires no reason at all? For some philosophers, the question “what is love?” generates a host of issues: love would mean simply an abstract noun; for others, it is a means by which our beings are irrevocably affected once we are ‘touched by love’; some conducted experiments and analyzed it while others have decided to leave it in the realm of the ineffable. I am definitely back into writing and the great way to start this rebirth of passion is writing about love  because it is everything. I’m a bit drunk while writing this article  honestly. Now  allow me to give to you a quick rant about this real thin...

Tips on Traveling with Friends

Image
Travelling with friends can be one of the most memorable experiences of your life. These travels will be remembered all your years. So making these memories bountiful and meaningful with friends is an important aspect of enjoying life while you still have all the energies of your youth. However, these vacations would quickly go down and drain if you are not on the same page with your friends. That is why it is very important that you communicate and plan together in order to avoid confrontations during the trip. Here are some of the things I suggest you should do before your scheduled trips:   Trip itinerary:  Make sure everyone agrees on the daily activities;  Trip costs:   Make sure everyone is aware with their own share of the costs; Food/Lodge:  All...
